This is an important PSA to all fellow big dreamers out there! 🗣️
I know the year has just begun, but it’s never too late to start setting purposeful goals you’ve always wanted to achieve. Gotta make use of all that new year buzz, amirite?
While I’ve only been properly writing my vision and goals down for two years, I think I’m doing well so far. So, why not share my blessings?
Also, important to note that I’m a pretty low maintenance person when it comes to matters like this.
If you’re more Type A and strictly detail-oriented, the guide ahead isn’t for you. Now that I think about it, if you were a Type A badass, you’re probably way ahead of me in terms of goal setting.
Just have fun reading if that’s the case for you! Everyone is welcome here lol.
Without further ado, I present my personal guide to goal alignment.
1. Set the vision

Ever had a snippet or a scene of your dream life play in your head over and over again? That’s your vision right there. Or at least some part of it.
As someone with an overactive and vivid imagination, my snippets even have musical scores with a matching ~*aesthetic*~ filter and cinematography.
The real life scenario may not match that in exact detail once it comes to fruition, but I want it to feel that way. The feeling is always important.
Hold onto that vision. Especially if it sparks that boundless joy in you and comes to mind repeatedly. It’s on loop for a reason!
If your imagination station ain’t doing it for you, then focus on how you want to feel – now and moving forward.
In my previous blog post about pursuing dreams, I mention that my biggest dream (still) is “to be happy and grateful wherever I may be in life and to be the most favorite version of myself.”
Having that foundational feeling for your dream/vision and goal planning allows everything else you may desire to fall into place.
2. Pick resonant keywords

You’ve got the vision, you’ve got the dream.
Now, it’s time to start grounding that into 3D reality. I truly believe that words are powerful tools that can help us reach our goals.
I mean, hello? Affirmations? They exist and many successful people use them to manifest their desires.
Choose those keywords wisely. Mindful goal setting is key. Three would be a good number to start, but even if you just have one keyword that deeply resonates with your vision, then go for it.
My keywords for 2024 were freedom, peace, and love. And you know what? I did experience all three of them in the majority of my year.
While I did have bad days, they don’t make up the entire bigger picture of it all. That’s just how life is. It’s not perfect. A bad day or bad days don’t equate to a bad life.
3. Write down goals and steps

From your keywords, you can begin writing down (or typing out like I do) your goals as you see fit! Go bonkers, whether it involves career/financial goals or personal development goals.
If you’d rather skip the keyword magic, that’s fine. I personally prefer having an overarching theme before breaking down my objectives one by one. Makes it easier for my chatty whirlwind of a Gemini moon brain.
Similar to the previous tip, three main goals is a great place to start. I just think three is a good number. I like it. Golden trio, anyone?
Besides, if you have three main keywords, it makes perfect sense to have three main goals that correspond to each one of them.
Not that it’s a requirement – just a gentle suggestion. Again, I’m all about freedom and autonomy. You do you, my dear one.
Then, of course, within the main goals, you can insert sub-goals. Don’t forget about the realistic, concrete steps to take. They’ll keep you grounded as you move toward reaching your goals.
4. Get creative

It’s vision board-ing time!! My favorite part of this entire process.
It doesn’t matter whether you want to scrapbook, paint, draw, collage, or whatever-other-creative-medium-existing the heck out of your vision. Embrace your inner artist.
My personal preference is vision boards, both digital and physical. The concept of a digital vision board was introduced to me when I did the Cosmic Boss program.
Admittedly, I was a skeptic at first. But the beauty of a digital vision board is that you can set it as the background of your phone or your laptop – devices we are constantly exposed to. That consistent reinforcement does wonders for your mind.
My physical vision board, on the other hand, is strategically taped on the window near my desk. The perfect cherry on top that pulls me closer to goal alignment.
5. Take inspired action (and accountability)

If you want to walk the talk, taking inspired action is the way to go. Setting actionable goals requires us to do so. We didn’t write down those steps earlier for nothing, okay?
That said, if you fall short at some point, take accountability. Let’s say one of your goals was to publish a blog post weekly. You manage to do it in the first week, but then miss the second.
It’s normal to feel guilty about missing a deadline or blaming an external circumstance. The best thing for you to do is take a step back, accept responsibility for the blunder, and assess where exactly it all went wrong.
If it was an external circumstance, what can you do to work around that? Was it just a one-time occurrence? Will it still be feasible to write a blog post weekly? Maybe a bi-weekly blog post would be better.
It’s important to be honest with yourself – know the extent of your capacity, possible time constraints, and drive to follow through with your goal.
Nevertheless, also celebrate your wins and progress. Yes, that includes small wins and progress. They matter. You went ahead and did the damn thing, my friend!
I don’t care if that’s waking up earlier than usual or reading a self-help book for 30 minutes per day. Accomplishing even a sliver of your vision is an incredible feat.
Final thoughts
Goal alignment can be intimidating initially, but if your vision deeply and truly resonates with your soul’s desire and purpose, then you can never go wrong in the grander scheme of things.
Feel free to update your goals and/or vision as you go with the flow of the wild yet meaningful journey. I know I’ve had to tweak mine here and there. In fact, my vision has evolved in the past couple of years and in the best way.
So, here’s to hitting the bullseye with your purposeful goals and epically achieving your vision. It is, after all, one of life’s many beautiful experiences.
