Out with the Old, In with the New: Redefining Modern Spirituality

The paradigm shift in modern spirituality is finally emerging.

I don’t mean to sound like a cult leader when I state that, but it’s true.

If some old spiritual self-help tips, beliefs, and mindsets have been rubbing you off the wrong way recently, you’re not crazy. There’s a reason for it.

A rebirth, a transformation, even an evolution is brewing beneath the surface. And it’s up to us–the self-aware, the spiritual, the mystical–to ride its waves and witness its unfolding.

Always with curiosity, never with fear and judgment.

Also, on a side note, am I back to regular blogging? Not officially.

Howeveeerrrr, the fact that I felt deeply compelled to write an actual blog post (been sticking to little Substack newsletter blurbs the past few months) is a good sign! I’ll tell you that much.

Anyway, going back to the regular programming..

The spiritual journey we are and have all been embarking on as a collective is taking an interesting turn.

We’ve seen the deepest roots of darkness come into light, much like the horrifying and inhumane exchanges and activities of the Epstein elite. With that, some prominent figures, whether in academe or spirituality, have also shown their true identity.

That was one of the many ripples that led people to question the current oppressive systems that exist, including outdated beliefs in modern spirituality.

Now, I’m not saying the old beliefs or mindsets that I will mention are oppressive, because that would be extreme. But I am saying they’re repressive, even overbearing at times.

So, here are some rewritten narratives about spirituality that will allow more expansion and openness for your personal growth moving forward.

Ego is not the enemy.

It’s the friend you call out every once in a while. Lovingly. Hahahaha.

When we first discover spirituality, we often hear, “Don’t let your ego run the show!”, “Your ego is feeding all of these lies to you”, “The ego is never right, but the soul always is”. Or some variation of those.

While there is truth to these statements, there is also another layer to them.

Yes, we shouldn’t be letting our ego run the show. However, we shouldn’t be suppressing or ignoring it either. Our ego exists for a reason.

It keeps us in check with our external reality and allows us to use logic for the most practical and safest approach to a specific situation or challenge. Its main goal is to protect us.

And much like any other concept, ideal, belief, practice, so on and so forth, moderation is key.

Letting the ego protect us from every single theoretical danger that may come our way results in a sheltered life. On the other hand, completely disregarding it leads to blind optimism and dissociation from reality.

I personally believe that it’s good to have a healthy ego. An ego that may be snarky sometimes, but also lets your intuition say its piece.

Together? They are un-fucking-stoppable. It makes conscious living funner yet more grounded.

Instead of looking at your ego like some enemy you must defeat or villain you must thwart, look at it like your overprotective friend who needs compassion AND tough love.

The misunderstood friend who definitely deserves a seat at the table.

Sometimes, shit just happens.

Without any meaning or lesson.

Read that again and let it sink in hahahaha.

I’ve talked about this in my newsletter, Chika Dyosa, and I still stand by it.

A part of finding your own spiritual path is finding purpose in life. Your soul’s blueprint. Because of that, it’s inevitable that we give meaning to daily happenings and major events.

You were suddenly let go from that job that’s basically your safety net? The universe was redirecting you elsewhere.

The relationship you thought was the one came crashing and burning down? They were a lesson for your highest good.

Assigned the most challenging and difficult task at work? It’s a test of your strength and resilience.

Flight got delayed? *insert appropriate cosmic truth or lesson here*

Girl, let’s be for real here for a second.

I welcome meaning-making. I LOVE putting meaning into incidents that shaped us and left a mark in our lives.

They make me feel like I’m a part of this beautifully grand and intrinsic plan from the universe and my higher self.

BUT! We have to know when an occurrence is just an occurrence or when it’s an actual situation that is showing you or teaching you something.

Aka use your discernment. Ain’t no other way to move through spiritual growth and mold your personal spirituality than through discernment.

Manifestation speed ≠ your worth.

Listen to me now and listen to me well.

You are enough. (Yes, I am just repeating what’s in the image above, because it doesn’t hurt to!)

More than enough.

This is another matter I touched on in Chika Dyosa and I will keep talking about it until it’s been made clear to majority of the planet’s population. 😂

Just because you aren’t able to receive your manifestation instantly, does not mean there is something wrong with you.

Some manifestations take time, some DREAMS take time to get to you, to materialize in your reality. And that’s okay.

I’m going to provide a personal example: Bella Dyosa has been around since 2022. For three whole years (on a break at the moment), I consistently wrote monthly blog posts, released podcast episodes, and promoted my tarot reading offerings. But as I write this (2026), I haven’t been getting the ROI I want.

Does that mean I’m worthless? Does that mean Bella Dyosa will never go anywhere? NO. Absolutely the fuck not!

If I left her to die and stopped investing time, energy, and effort in her, SURE, she probably will become this weird and random void on the internet.

But I’m not and I won’t.

Because I believe in my brand, I believe in my creative expression and spiritual mission through this brand. I refuse to accept defeat just because Bella Dyosa hasn’t gotten the recognition she deserves. Yet.

As one of my favorite tarot reader Youtubers, Kino, said, “Yes, we need to actively participate in life. But we also need to respect the unfolding of life.”

Current external circumstances do not dictate our value. WE define our value. No one and nothing else does or even has the right to.

And this is coming from someone who has done (and continues to do) the inner work, who has faced her inner demons, who has always asked herself the tough and honest questions about her current energy and mindset.

At some point in our spiritual journey, we have to pause, see how far we’ve come, and give ourselves a heartfelt pat on the back. Cause… you really did ALL THAT. Come on!

Remember who the fuck you are and stop taking shit personally.

Ain’t no motherfreaking manifestation guru can tell me what is and isn’t working for me. I know what’s best for me and I surrender everything else to the universe.

All feelings are welcome.

“High vibrations” be damned.

It’s all I ever see and hear of with most (not ALL, obvs) modern spirituality gurus. And that’s just on Youtube. I can only imagine the noise Instagram and TikTok have.

Look, I understand the concept of clickbait and the need to keep a viewer’s attention on your content. You gotta stand out and be different from the rest.

But if you flat out tell unsuspecting (or worse, vulnerable) people that they’ll only be able to manifest their dream life with the “right frequency” or that they can only get their deepest desires through positive thinking and/or full detachment, YOU need to take a time-out.

BE SERIOUS.

Have YOU ever just watched such a manifestation video and magically managed to live life like the Teletubbies sun 24/7? Listened to that spiritual guru’s advice and cut off all attachments like a robot booting up to its new programming?

Probably not. It sounds ridiculous because it IS ridiculous!

Life is complex. Living as a human being is complicated with its ups and downs, highs and lows, rewards and challenges, good experiences and bad experiences. And everything else in between.

With that, emotions such as anger, sadness, frustration, fear, jealousy, and disgust (I can go on and on, let’s be real) will come up. And you will feel them. Because it’s normal.

These emotions do not sabotage your frequency, aura, orb, or whatever the fuck term the experts use these days. They also do not knock you out of alignment.

If anything, they help you get to a lighter and better place when you face and feel them accordingly. Even breakthroughs that help you understand yourself and your path with clarity.

Hello, shadow work?

But fine, I get the nuance of deliberately choosing to stay a Debbie Downer forever when there is the option of being neutral (at best).

Presence in its true essence.

Which, by the way, is not just touching grass then meditating away come rain or shine.

Upon watching a podcast guesting of Kyle Cease, the way I saw being in the present moment shifted for me.

He poses the question, “What’s here now?”

Because this is all you truly have and authentically are. Right here, right now.

What’s in the past has come and gone, merely a memory. What’s in the future has yet to arrive, whether that’s five years or five minutes from now.

Once I asked myself this and witnessed what’s actually there, I understood.

One minute, it’s sadness. Later on, it could be anger and frustration. Sometimes, fear and anxiety. Then, other times, it’s elation and joy.

We were never taught to just stop and ask ourselves, “What’s here now?” Because there’s always something else to do, something else to consume. Something “better” to do with our time.

When sometimes, all our nervous system wants is attention. Intentional attention. To be seen, heard, and felt.

No solutions, no analysis, no distractions, no bypassing, and in special cases, no comfort or reassurance.

You can quite literally just look at the emotion or memory surfacing, let it do its thing–maybe it will rant over and over about one person or situation, maybe it will scream the most unhinged group of words known to man–then release it.

I believe that presence in its true essence means accepting yourself and your life unconditionally in this moment.

How’s that for redefining the modern approach to spirituality?

Let yourself be. As you are now. With whatever feelings arrive. With whatever challenges arise.

Eventually, the feelings leave. The challenges resolve, whether through your own accord or external support.

And if you ever doubt yourself, know that you are never alone in the spiritual journey.

Yes, we each have our unique path, mission, and purpose in this lifetime. But taking the road less traveled by just means there are fewer normies to deal with. 💀

So, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there, let your freak flag fly, and claim your universal magic. Who knows what amazing experiences and people will find you along the way? ✨
